Counselling

Weekly counselling sessions available in Maidstone Town Centre using an Acceptance & Commitment Therapy approach.

This type of therapy has become popular in recent times because you take an active role in learning a number of skills and processes. Both in session & via audio exercises you will learn a more effective way of dealing with the mind &  psychological distress. You can also practice these skills in a more informal way in your everyday life. This cutting edge type of therapy transforms how we think about our distress & what we do with it. Your will learn processes & skills for difficult feelings, emotions, moods, thoughts, ruminations, & addictive behaviours.You will learn to have more conscious control by reducing or switching off our many ‘autopilots’ that we have that take over & are often problematic. Also you will learn to live more in the present moment & have more vitality in your life.

This is based on Acceptance & Commitment Therapy which is a ‘third wave’ behavioural therapy. There are a number of processes that you may have to learn & practice, including Acceptance, Cognitive defusion, Present moment, Doing what matters, Values, and Mindfulness Meditation.

 

One of the great things about this type of therapy is that it’s very broad in its benefits. It's excellent for not only dealing with our common difficulties like anxiety & depression, it also gives us a fresh new framework & set of tools to deal with a vast array of other issues, including: 

  • Dealing with all emotions more effectively

  • Noticing our problematic thinking processes

  • Utilising our senses to notice & engage more in our everyday activities

  • Calming the mind & nervous system more generally

  • Clarifying our values & goals & moving towards them more effectively.

  • Learning how to eat mindfully

  • Ability to slow down

  • Dealing with general life stress

  • Improving communication & relationships.

 

What’s also important is that you are given the time & space to talk about your past, your feelings, your thoughts, and any changes you want or need to make in life.

Rates are £50 per session (55 minutes)
